Ever thought about diving into the world of log home construction?
Whether you’re seeking a new challenge or dreaming of crafting your own log haven, we’ve got you covered. This is your chance to not only grasp the fundamentals but to get hands-on with real log structures amidst the sawdust.
Our Log Building Course is a collaborative program between Natural Log Homes and the Log Building Association of New Zealand. Held in Geraldine, on New Zealand’s South Island around March each year, the course takes place at the Natural Log Homes building yard—an active professional log construction site. You’ll see log homes in progress and work alongside a team of skilled, experienced builders.
This introductory course is ideal for those with no prior log building experience. While having some experience with timber or chainsaws is helpful, it’s not essential. What you can expect is 13 days of immersive, physically demanding training that builds real-world skills.
The course is led by Graeme Mould, Owner of Natural Log Homes. With over 30 years of experience, Graeme is one of the industry’s most respected, professional, and internationally recognized log builders and instructors.
At the Log Building Association of New Zealand, we aim to foster the highest standards of log building, monitor building code revisions affecting log buildings and offer information to log builders and the public. We’re passionate about log homes—and we want to share that
passion with you. We would like to introduce more people to the benefits of log buildings, which offer a range of advantages. Their interlocking walls provide greater structural stability and are less likely to collapse during earthquakes, making them a safer option. Log buildings are also environmentally friendly, with a lower carbon footprint—especially when sourced from responsibly managed, re-planted forests. The natural thermal mass of logs helps regulate indoor temperatures, improving energy efficiency for heating and cooling.
Additionally, living in a log home promotes a peaceful, calming atmosphere and reduces exposure to synthetic chemicals commonly found in conventional construction, making it a healthier choice for everyday living.
