29 tonnes of tyre rubber in roads is just the start

29 tonnes of recycled tyre rubber have been laid as part of a road in the Selwyn District in a partnership between Selwyn District Council  and HEB Construction, using rubber supplied by Treadlite New Zealand.

That’s just the beginning. Tyrewise estimates up to 14,000 tonnes per year could be going into roading. Recycled rubber can help roads  last longer and perform better. “Our role is to kickstart uptake in Aotearoa New Zealand. We support development of standards and  specifications road owners like councils and NZTA can rely on, offer grant funding for R&D and emerging markets, and pay incentives to  registered processors and manufacturers such as roading contractors.”
